On the occasion of World Water Day, Agriumbria, the agricultural fair organized by Umbriafiere SpA, is offering an in-depth discussion dedicated to conscious use and innovative systems for managing water resources in agriculture.

Drought and climate change have highlighted, especially in recent months, the structural drama of water shortages in agriculture. In Italy, losses are estimated at 10% of national agri-food production, worth more than EUR 5 billion. According to WWF, in some cases the losses are dramatic: up to 70% less for several varieties of fruit and vegetables, between 50% and 60% less for maize, between 10% and 30% less for wheat, 45% less for fodder for animal feed, and 20% less for milk. Water is a matter of primary importance for agriculture.

This is why Agriumbria is "opening" the fair with a preview ahead of the event dates, 31 March, 1 and 2 April, and doing so with a conference dedicated to one of the strategic issues for agriculture and food security, precisely on the occasion of World Water Day. On Wednesday, 22 March, at the Umbriafiere Congress Centre in Bastia Umbra, the conference entitled Sustainable Management of Water Resources will be held: a moment of study and technical insight into the protection and intelligent use of water in agriculture. The day is strongly promoted by Agriumbria and organized in collaboration with the University of Perugia (DSA3).

Several partners have joined the initiative and will contribute their insights: Regione Umbria, Arpa Umbria, Movimento Laudato Si', Umbra Acque, Coldiretti, Confagricoltura and CIA Umbria, 3A Parco Tecnologico, Consorzio Bonificazione Umbra and the Order of Agronomists. During the event, models, tools and applied technologies for adapting agriculture to climate change will be presented and analyzed.

The seminar aims to take stock of the innovative contribution of technology applied to water saving. "We wanted to focus on one of the key issues for the challenges facing agriculture in the future," explains Umbriafiere President Stefano Ansideri. "After all, one of Agriumbria's characteristics is precisely that of creating opportunities for dialogue between the business world and the world of science and research." During the seminar, the report prepared by the University of Perugia for Agriumbria will be presented.

The 54th edition of Agriumbria, scheduled in Bastia Umbra from 31 March to 2 April 2023, will be dedicated to the agricultural supply chain. The trade fair, with more than 420 exhibitors representing over 2,000 companies and industries either present directly or represented through the commercial network, will offer a broad and organic overview of the technological innovation achieved across the different product sectors. The edition is therefore expected to be rich not only in exhibitors, but also in new developments from the point of view of technology and science applied to agriculture.
