At Agriumbria 2025, surplus food will go to Banco Alimentare dell'Umbria
A new collaboration to send a strong message to the entire agri-food world. During the fair, at the end of each day, food that has not been served will be collected and distributed. Banco Alimentare has been present in Umbria since 1996. In 2024, 1,314 tonnes of food were collected and distributed to 24,867 people through 213 affiliated organizations.
Education and the fight against food waste. Umbriafiere is previewing another new feature of the 56th edition of Agriumbria, which will take place in the Umbriafiere spaces from 28 to 30 March. The new feature is the creation of a new collaboration between the fair and another important national organization with a strong presence in Umbria, Banco Alimentare, which this year will be present at the fair with an institutional space in the hall of the Congress Centre. "It is increasingly necessary to keep the spotlight on one of the most important issues of this century: food education and the fight against waste. To do so, we must be aware of how the market is evolving and of consumer preferences," explains Umbriafiere President Stefano Ansideri. "We therefore believe that educating people about proper nutrition can also be one of the tasks of our event, through the Consumer Observatory and, from this edition, also thanks to this new collaboration with Banco Alimentare, which will bring its added value to Agriumbria."
Among the main actions planned at the fair, in addition to a series of messages launched by Banco Alimentare dell'Umbria through materials and tutors present at the stand, there will be the collection at the end of each day of food that has not been served during the fair, to be delivered to Banco's partners. A seminar will also be promoted, focusing on what Banco does to "reduce" food waste in Italy and in Umbria.
"This participation and collaboration seem important to us because our mission is to recover food that is still good and redistribute it throughout the territory to people facing food hardship, through organizations affiliated with our Association. Giving value back to food, a good we cannot do without, is also a commitment to proper food education. Banco Alimentare has been present in Umbria since 1996; the activity is carried out daily in three warehouses located throughout the Region, thanks to 40 volunteers and 4 employees.
